The Starry Night Over the Rhone (1888) just sucks you in, more than a 3D film, more than many gardens and skyscrapers with waterviews. It's pure, fabulist magic. But you'll have to settle for this electronic reproduction for the moment. If you can get to the MoMA while this painting is up...do it. Painting at night, back before cameras and lamps were what they are now was really challenging. But Van searched high and low, found a spot where the gaslights of the city let him see his work, and nailed it.
