BRIEF POLITICAL ARGH!!!! i wish it was only about international sport, champions, triumphs and defeats. but it isn't, in china, now, is it? it's about sudden "relocation," broken government promises, and censorship...along with all of that sport, etc. read this article before you watch another olympic event. from the page: "In theory, the Communist Party allows citizens to lobby the central government on matters of local corruption, the illegal seizure of land and extralegal detentions. In reality, those who arrive at Beijing's petition office are often met at the door by plainclothes officers who stop them from filing their complaints and then bundle them back to their hometowns. Intimidation, beatings and administrative detentions are often enough to prevent them from trying again."

I'm all for sport, but boy did US athletes give up on the whole boycott Chinese Olympics until the nation admits it has a pollution / human rights violation / censorship / artificial currency maniuplation (etc.) problem, and maybe even tries to solve it, fast! But yeah, good sport stories happening all the same. From the page: "At the recent Japanese Olympic trials, Kitajima broke Hansen's world record in the 200, then announced he hoped Hansen would break that record at the U.S. trials (the finals are Thursday night), thus building the drama and raising the stakes for their Olympic showdowns."

From the page: ""So many people expect the Olympics will help make China's economy even more prosperous. But in China, the government operates everything. As a result, the Olympics are not that efficient, economically speaking," said Zhang Ming, a professor of international relations at Renmin University."

Can you imagine somebody you know in the U.S. getting killed, killed by police, for walking in a protest? WALKING!?! This is sickening. Be aware. At the very least, send a letter. Express yourself because they cannot without great risk of bodily harm or even loss of life. Speak for Tibetan human rights, and Buddhist religious freedom.
