3D Illustration! Love it. I've long been a craft fan, and especially of Sculpey / polymer clay projects. This woman Bethany Culp takes it to a high level of graphic design, and has even scored magazine covers. Love!

An interview with Bombay-born, London-based, eye-meltingly awesome sculptor Anish Kapoor. "ANISH KAPOOR: One of the fictions of my work is that these things are not made." Go visit WBUR's photos of this guy's work. While photos are not sufficient (one must see his works in person) they are rather cool. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3219/2534020057_436c56c548.jpg?v=1212093145

Here is a detail of the cool sculpture I mentioned the other day...now in the group show at David Zwirner. A roller coaster carved into marble.

Anish Kapoor, here, in NYC! I will view your shiny excellence as often as possible A-Kaps. Glanced at the silvery wedge standing in the window today, but alas was too late to get into the air conditioning for further gawking and (no pun intended) reflection.

If you're in NYC today? It is the last day of this exhibition...it's amazing. Highlights include: a whale sculpture, perched atop a very shined up grand piano in a darkened, silent, room. And...gigantic wood carvings that hint at Jackson Pollock's American Flag series but still do their own thing. Tom Sachs! LOVE.
Artist Tom Sachs Didnt Bother With Permission for Hello Kitty Sculptures -- New …

These sculptures and fountains are near my new office. Surprisingly -- they don't just look like giant toys. They're really pretty intriguing, formally. You can see seams all over their curves, which in toy format, would be shiny or evenly fuzzy-plush. I like them even more knowing the artist made and installed them without paying IP lawyers to get official permission. Rebellious artists, no matter how small their rebellions, seem more focused on making good visual work than overtly political artists to me. Go check these out, especially if you're just down the street at MoMA in NYC.
From the page: "Tom Sachs didnâ€t bother to get permission from Hello Kittyâ€s owner, Sanrio, before he installed his enormous Hello Kitty sculptures in front of Lever House. â€oeI think itâ€s better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission,” he said at the opening party on May 8. " More Tom Sachs at Tomio Koyama gallery: Delicious bronze sculpture of a Leica camera...I can't decide if brands, or objects of materialistic desire are his muse -- And more...

From the page: "This summer, internationally renowned artist Chris Burden will exhibit a new sculpture at Rockefeller Center in New York â€" WHAT MY DAD GAVE ME, a dramatic, 65-foot-tall skyscraper made entirely of toy construction parts. Standing more than six stories tall at the Fifth Avenue entrance to the Channel Gardens, WHAT MY DAD GAVE ME will pay homage to the historic skyscrapers that populate New York and give the city its iconic architectural presence. WHAT MY DAD GAVE ME will be on view, free and open to the public, from June 10 through July 19, 2008. The exhibition is presented by the Public Art Fund and hosted by Tishman Speyer, co-owners of Rockefeller Center. "
